Super Nawettan Debutant Contains Champions
- Farafenni who joined the competition for the first time held reigning champions Serrekunda East to all a goalless draw, in the Africell Super Nawettan, at Serrekunda East mini stadium.
Serrekunda East who started their title defense with victory over their rivals Bakau were favoured by bookies to see off Super Nawettan new comers Farafenni.
Farafenni commonly known as Chaku Bantang, matches the Serrekunda boys in every aspect of the encounter. They created chances, pass around the ball well and defended well as the champions.
The first big chance of the game fell to the Chaku boys; Alagie Camara who got the ball just inside the East eighteen yard box, saw his shot parried by shotstopper Lamin Jammeh into the path of Baboucarr Saine who inside the eighteen yard arc taps the ball over Jammeh’s post.
East also threatened at the other end; Kutubo Sanyang from halfway line in midfield sprayed a beautiful pass to his to-be Real De Banjul team mate, Ebrima Singhateh. Ebrima skillfully beats his marker and sent a low ball across the Farafenni defense, but Modoulamin Nyassi virtually inside the six yard tapped his right footed effort wide.
Serrekunda East seemed to find a route on the left wing, Kutubo Sanyang picked winger Singhateh who again beats his marker and whip in a cross, but Modoulamin Nyassi’s stretching right foot could only touch the ball over the left angle, of Abdoulie Bayo’s post.
As the clock ticks midway through the first half the champions settled and Farafenni struggled to contain them. Kutubo Sanyang and Ebrima Singhateh continue to combine well and cause problems for the North Bank boys’ defense.
Farafenni will survive the continuous East onslaught, defending resolutely and their combative midfielder Kebba Njie pressing, winning the balls and pull the strings. Chaku time and time again knocks at the East backline but were frustrated with the linesman flagging them offside in numerous occasions, to the dislike of Farafenni contingents.
The debutants had a couple of penalty appeals waved away by the officials; first, Baboucarr Saine raced with the ball inside the East penalty area was dispossessed by defender Alhagie Saine, Baboucarr again complained that East right-back Bakary Badjie fouled him as he cleared his line. The Chaku bench and their travelling fans could be seen grumbling at the referee’s decisions.
The champions unlike the first half started the better side, but their bellow striker Kalipha Kanyi who missed an empty post opportunity in their victory over Bakau, was released beautifully from a Kutubo Sanyang lobbed pass, but Kany who had another game to forget kicks the ball straight at the Abdoulie Bayo, who puts his strong hands to the ball and push it away.
Both North Bank Region side and Serrekunda East introduced fresh legs in efforts to win the game that was witnessed by hundreds of fans fans, but to no avail. Most notably, Farafenni’s young midfielder and Real De Banjul bound, Muhammed Hydara.
Despite the zeros draw scoreline, both sides entertained especially Africell Super Nawettan new comers.
