Central United Clinches FABY Maiden Nawettan Trophy

Alieu Bojang’s 19th minute goal earned Central United FC a 1-0 win over Black Lions FC in the final of the maiden Farato, Busumbala and Yundum joined Nawettan tournament.

Kebba Drammeh ensured that, the boys from New Yundum enjoyed a wild celebration when he scored the only goal of the fierce contest in the 19th minute of the final. The Academy boys, Black Lion FC threatened to equalize with their diminutive attacking duo of Jerreh Dibbasey and Baboucarr Sanneh, but all their efforts went in vein.

Central United FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of twenty thousand dalaisis (D20,000) as winners of the inaugural FABY Nawettan.

Dawda Jawara, the head coach of Central United FC said his side used their experience to triumph over Black Lions FC. “We have experienced players in our team. We knew before the final that, academy (Black Lions FC) have good players but they’re inexperienced.” Central United coach Dawda Jawara said afterwards. He added ” We lost only one game during the course of the tournament, so I think we are deserved winners of the league. Even today we played a very good match and we capitalised on our chances.”

Black Lions FC of Busumbala, went home with a consolation prize of fifteen thousand dalaisis (D15,000) as runners up of the maiden FABY tournament. Lamin Jatta, the gaffer of Black Lions FC, cited “lack of luck” for their 1-0 defeat against Central United. “I can say we were a little bit unfortunate today. Today is not our day because we normally play more than this in all our matches.” Jatta said.

And he added “We are an academy team and our aim is to play good football that will help our boys grow as good footballers in the future. We lost the final but we’re happy that we proved many people wrong who thought we wouldn’t make it to the final”. Lamin Jatta concluded.

The best player of tournament was given to Lamin Trawally of Central United while Jerreh Dibbasey of Black Lions scooped the leading goalscorer award. Both the best player of the tournament and leading goalscorer went home with a cash prize of one thousand dalaisis (D1,000).
