Gamtel Gamcel FC Condemned Brikama To Successive Defeats, Tighten The Grip At The Top

Yahya Ndon, Gamtel Gamcel diminutive striker broke the hearts of the “Satayba” faithfuls with his 46th minute strike which was all but enough to earn Gamtel Gamcel a 1-0 win and condemned the defending champions to their second consecutive defeat.

Brikama United monopolised possession in the early parts of the match. Their midfield maestros, Lamin Balajo and Malick Sambou were dictating the proceedings for them in the centre of field.

Meanwhile, Gamtel Gamcel always look dangerous with their quick counter-attack football. Yahya Ndon, former Interior FC sensational striker was their danger man upfront and he really threatened the Brikama United defence before scoring the only goal in the tie just a minute after the break.

After all the ball possession and the chances the home side created, it was Gamtel Gamcel Yahya Ndon who stole the show when he latched unto Zil Jammeh’s cross down in the right flank of Gamtel Gamcel’s attacked.

Brikama United attacked and created some decent chances but they all bore futile as Gamtel Gamcel emerged as winners to put a strong case of their title credentials. While the defending champions suffered their second consecutive defeat following their last week 2-1 defeat to Gambia Ports Authority.

Modou Lamin Nyassi, the gaffer of Brikama United said his team has the full responsibility of their results. Nyassi is buoyed with confidence that his team will put up a respectable performance come the end of the season. “We have to take responsibility because we as a team, we win as a team and loose as a team. Definitely this is the first time since I became the coach of Brikama United we loose two consecutive matches in a row.” Modou Lamin Nyassi said afterwards.

And he added “In my first interview I said Brikama United will not struggle after the championship and we will not struggle. The league is still young and we still have more matches to go. We want to be in the first three in the first round or at least have a better position where we can compete for the title.”

Jim Kebbeh the head coach of Gamtel Gamcel expressed his happiness for winning against the defending champions. “I’m just delighted. I’m happy about everything because our objectives have been achieved. We’re on top of the league before this match and we consolidated that by winning.” Jim told
