Irony In Brikama: Daru Youths Fans Club Scoops “The Best Fans Club” Award, Amid Their Involvement In The Violence That Abrupted The League Final

Brikama Sports Committee (BSC) have awarded Daru Youths fan club the accolade of the best fan club. Many sports lover in Brikama and its vicinity applauded the committee for their foresight but not until when stones and bottles started to fly in the field for protesting on a 90+4 minutes disallowed goal.

Brikama Sports Committee once again branded Daru Youths fan club as the best among the 32 fans clubs which were cheering for their respective clubs. The drums of Daru Youths always rose with frenzy and frantic rhythm; and the energy in which they roarer and clap for their stars is second to none. Perhaps this might be the reason why there was a round of applause when they were named the best fan club after the first half of the final.

Muhammed Jallow broke the deadlock in the hour mark with a superb finish. Daru Youths thought they crafted an equaliser in the 90+4 minutes but the assistant referee’s flag was up for an offside to the dismay of their players, fans and faithfuls.

And from the disallowed goal, perhaps not surprisingly, stones and bottles starts to rain in the field. In venting their frustration and disappointment, Daru Youths faithfuls disrupt the match and Swansea City of Farato were later declared as the winners of Brikama Sports Committee 2019 league.

Modou Sowe, an ever present spectator, lamented the lack of unsportsmanllike by fans of Brikama and especially the “democracy” end. Sowe said violence has no place in the modern game. “I’m very disappointed that yet again a match in Brikama has been married with violence. It is disgusting and pathetic that, violence will overshadow today’s electric final” Modou Sowe said. He added “Fans have to exercise patience. For me Daru Youths fans club deserved the best fans club but the behaviour the fans at the “democracy” end and other parts of the field gives me mix feelings.”

Modou Sowe, an ardent fan of Gidda Youths also tasked the Brikama Sports Committee (BSC) to be organising symposia and holding radio programmes to abreast fans. “Brikama Sports Committee should also try to hold symposia and go to radio stations with the aim of sensitising fans. This kind of unsportsman behaviour cannot continue” Sowe warned.
