Police Denied GDC Permit to Hold Rally in Jimara and Tumana

The National Chairman of GDC, Dr Demba Sabally have said that the Gambia Police Force has denied the Gambia Democratic Congress a permit to hold a political rally in Kulari village in Tumana Constituency and Sareh Buchi village in Jimara Constituency.
This was after GDC applied to the Gambia Police Force to grant them permission to hold rallies. The reasons for the permit denial from the police did not seem genuine to Sabally.
“The explanation that the police gave to deny us the permit is very cheap Modou MC. Cham Jr, National Youth President of the GDC stressed, “because 99% of our rallies that we hold; they don’t provide security for us”.
According to him GDC; the GDC had earlier applied for permit to hold a rallies in Tumana and Jimara on 14th and 15th of December, but the police high command refused to grant them the permit.
MC Cham Jr further explained that the explanation that the police gave is that they will not issue any permit to political parties from December to January to hold any political rally.
However, he said since the police took this decision, they have not announced it to the public and that they went ahead and issued permit to the 3yrs Jotna movement. “This is absolutely wrong and is against our rights”. MC Cham Jr stressed.
