Rotary Club Brusubi Donates School Items to Charles Jaw Memorial
In a bid to support schools around the Gambia, the Rotary Club of Brusubi on Friday donated 40fts Container of School Items namely; Furniture, stationary amongst others to Charles Jaw Memorial Academy in Bundung.
This is the second annual container donation the club does for schools around the country.
Delivering his statement, Essa Sowe Chairman of the Board of governors of Charles Jaw memorial Academy alluded on the challenges the school is facing at the moment. He said the school is expanding as the grade 10, 11 and 12 is getting bigger which the school cannot accommodate.
“We need 10 new classrooms in the school as it is expanding rapidly”, Sowe said.
He said the classroom block where the Grade 7 is not enough to accommodate another badge of student; therefore they will have to stay in the same classroom and if that happens, the school won’t be able to admit new students.
He said this furniture will go a long in alleviating the challenges the school has with inadequate furniture for its classrooms. “To say we are happy about this donation will be an understatement” Sowe stated.
The Chair of the school board went on to say that aside from infrastructure, the school also needs fundamental items like furniture and other learning materials. “We are grateful and we say a big thank you to the Rotary Club of Brusubi”. He concluded.
Deputizing the Lord Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council Jaja Cham, CEO said Charles Jaw Memorial Academy is Council’s own and therefore the council will work tirelessly to meet the demands that the school needs as it is one of the best schools in the Municipality. “We will help! That’s the assurance”. He assured.
Cham applauded the Rotary Club of Brusubi for the noble gesture they have been doing and promised that their municipality is ready to work with the club anytime as their doors are open for all.
Fatou Gassama, President of the Rotary Club of Brusubi said in 2018 members of the Rotary Club of Cleveland in the United Kingdom approached the rotary club of Brusubi to collaborate on a project to provide furniture for schools in The Gambia. “We did one with Jabang School last year; and this is our second container”. He stated.
Gassama urged the school to make best use of the furniture and assured that the club will not only focus on donating furniture but will also want to upgrade the science department as well.
