Social Media- A Havoc Causing Online Addiction

Social Media- A Havoc Causing Online Addiction

In a recent intriguing study co-conducted by an Indian-origin professor, it has been revealed that social media apps are becoming an addiction to users. Instead of shutting these apps down, they tend to hop from one to another, border lining on becoming compulsive users.

Instagram and Facebook have been known to instigate stress in users. However, even in a crisis, they refuse to put down their phone. The professor observed that social media platforms are readily becoming a paradox

The study has revealed that users are so addicted to such applications that they seek distractions in them from the stress caused by these platforms. They are so far gone, they are using Facebook and other sites as coping mechanisms, hiding behind diversions.

Even if something on the site traumatizes or stresses them out, they continue on it using other activities on the platform to distract themselves. What they don’t yet understand is the compulsive behavior which is turning users into regular junkies.

In their addiction, users also tend to divulge too much social or personal information and even give in to plenty of social demands. Thus, putting themselves at risk. The research team concluded that users have embedded themselves so deeply into these sites that quitting is oftentimes a difficult, if not impossible. Arrangements are being made to carry out another study to prevent this addiction from festering in the first place and how to get users off of it.

Who knew something as facilitating as social media could wreak this much havoc?
