Super Nawettan: Manjai Sends Bakau Packing

Manjai boys have beaten Bakau 2-0 in the quarter final of the Africell Super Nawettan, at the Serekunda West mini stadium.

It was a scintillating encounter as both side battle to reach the semi final. But it is the Manjai boys who got the last laugh as they dominated majority of the possession against their opponent. Lamin Jarjou , Pa Ndow and Modou Ceesay were wasteful in front of goal as they missed series of chances in the first half but continued to pose threat to the Bakau goal mouth.

Manjai claimed a penalty in the 17th minute of the game after Lamin Jarjou was brought down in the penalty area by Sarjo Sonko. The Bakau defender tangle the Manjai number 10 down but referee Mawdo Jallow was not interested as he wave for continuity, after he adjudge it as a simulation against Lamin Jarju.

Bakau had their moment to punished Manjai in the 23rd minute of the game after Sulayman Drammeh dribble pass two players, only for his final touch let him down as his shot went wide to the dismay of the Bakau fans.

The moment of joy for Manjai came in the 14th minute of the second half. Basirou Touray toe-poke the ball at the bottom corner after Bakau defense failed to clear their line from a corner after series of scramble in the penalty area to put the Orange fans on their feet in jubilation.

Bakau Coach Pa Bojang made some substitution as he brought in Kebba Sowe, Pa Malick Bah and Bubacarr Jatta to add more fire power to his side. The efforts of the new players introduced add little impact as they were trailing to Manjai.

Bakau came close in the 81st minute after Pa Malick Bah dribbled pass his marker at the edge of the box but his tame shot went whiskers away from goal. Despite adding more flare to the team the Manjai coach Pa Mbowe read the game well as he introduced Frumous Bass to inject more strength to his midfield to keep Bakau abreast.

In the 89th minute of the game, Bakau got a free kick of around 20 yards from goal but full back Sarjo Sonko blazed the ball over the cross bar. With all the energy used to search for an equalizer, Bakau were caught napping on the counter attack in the 92nd minute after prodigy Lamin Jarju’s cross hit the arm of the full back as central referee Mawdo Jallow has no option but point to the spot kick.

Ebrima Camara made no mistake as he sends Bakau goal keeper You Kasseh in the wrong direction to give Manjai 2-0 lead wrap up the victory all together to send Bakau packing.
Manjai now set up a semi final clash with Serekunda West on Tuesday, at the independent stadium.
