UNICEF Donates $500, 000 Worth of Health Equipment to Ministry of Health
Quality health care delivery is paramount with the availably of basic lifesaving equipment and essential medicines in any country, In its drive to reduce maternal and infant mortality and quality health care delivery, UNICEF recently provided the Ministry of Health with equipment earmarked to reduce maternal and infant mortality and other complications.
These items according to the official are worth over received valuable medical equipment worth over $500, 000 (approximately 25 Million dalasi).
Babanding Sabally, Director of Pharmaceutical Service said the items are state of the earth and directly met the requirement of the Ministry of health in it strive towards quality health care delivery.
He was quick to highlight the available steps to be taking for proper maintenance of the equipment.
UNICEF being a regular partner in the health fraternity especially issues related to children has been rendering such support to boast The Gambia health ministry, for her part, Sandra Lattouf expressed the readiness to partner with the relevant authorities to help save more lives in The Gambia.
“Constant communications will be follow to the ministry to see other possible interest which UNICEF will help in moving forward to the Universal Health Coverage for all”. She stated.
Lattouf went on to say that UNICEF has launched the decade of action to compliment governments effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and call on parastatals, NGOs and others to join the strive for a better health care for all.
Hon Ousman Sillah Chair of the NAM select Committee on Health said the oversight functions of the select committee is to continuously monitor with relevant stakeholders in health in making sure that quality and affordable health care is available, transparency and accountability is ensured.
Receiving the equipments, Dr Ahmadou Samateh Minister of Health said without proper and timely information there I nothing much in the health sector especially in the area of disease prevention. Samateh expressed delight in the previous work done by the ministry but limited in equipments and materials.
This, he said will contribute a lot in combating infant mortality, He vowed to close share with the NAM select committee on Health about the necessary steps taking as preventive measures towards the acclaimed CORONA VIRUS. With regards to the distribution of the equipments, Minister Samateh highlighted that vicious inventory of equipment will be done to avoid duplication.
